Italy’s best small museums

They may not be grand or famous, but these museums in Italy are perfect for holiday visits, says Lee Marshall on the travel section of the “Telegraph”: “You might not want to devote an entire day of your holiday to visiting a national museum, but there’s no need to sacrifice culture altogether – there are dozens of excellent small art galleries and museums within easy reach of most holiday hot spots in Italy. A good local museum will add to your understanding of the region and as you won’t have to queue to view exhibits, you can be in and out in less than an hour.”.Marshall classifies The Museum Palazzo Corboli in Asciano as one of the 15 best small Italian Museums:
Palazzo Corboli “contains the kind of minor religious works you might expect to find in any small Tuscan town. But a couple of things set it above the competition. First is an exquisite Birth of the Virgin, set in a closely observed Renaissance household, by a local artist known as “Il Maestro dell’Osservanza. And second is Palazzo Corboli itself, with its extraordinary – and unique – rooms frescoed with allegorical cycles. The Aristotle Room – a daringly pagan theme for the early 14th century – is particularly striking “
Pretty Asciano perches on a hilltop, half an hour’s drive (or train ride) from Siena. So it is very easy to reach from each one of the farmhouses of Chiantiferie (visit http://www.chiantiferie.net) however if you would like to stay in the area the farmhouses you can choose always on http://www.chiantiferie.net are Agriturismo Casanova, Agriturismo Il Molinello or Agriturismo Podere Pereto.

Ancient origins are lost among the narrow alleys and spice shops of medieval Siena, where the recipes came to life for the tables of the lords of the time, that of Ricciarelli di Siena is not only the history of a flagship product in the Tuscana and Sienese confectionery industry but also the expression of the deep bond with the traditions of the town that are respected like in few other places in the world.
